The MCI Center is one of
Washington’s newest attractions. Home to the NBA Wizards and the
NHL Capitals, the MCI Center contains the National Sports Gallery,
the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame and the
Discovery Store.
Completed in 1997, the MCI
center is more than just the new home of the NBA Wizards, WNBA
Mystics, NHL Capitals and the Georgetown Hoyas, it is a family
oriented sports complex. Visitors can participate in the exhibits
and interactive sports skill games at the National Sports Gallery,
a 25,000 square-foot gallery within the MCI Center, or take a
guided tour of the arena that includes the team locker rooms, the
arena floor and the press room.
Sportsfans can also pay
homage to the people who covered great sports moments by visiting
the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame.
Besides sports related
activities, people can browse around the three floors of the
Discovery Channel Store; an amazing store filled with educational
displays and activities. Visitors can also familiarize thamselves
with Washington by watching the "Destination DC" film
presented by the Discovery Channel. It also has the Hubble
Observatory, a giant ant colony and a cast of the largest
Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton ever assembled.
Check the box office for
tickets and game schedules.
A great inside tip is to have lunch at the Velocity Grill. The
dining room overlooks the arena floor, so you might be able to
catch one of the professional teams at practice.
Definitely spend some time
in the Discovery Channel store. It's educational and fun.
Check out "Discovery Rex", a cast of the largest
