The MCI National Sports
Gallery (in the MCI Center) features interactive games and skills
activities as well as an impressive collection of sports
memorabilia. Play one on one vs. your favorite NBA star in the
"Virtual Reality Basketball" exhibit.
The MCI National Sports
Gallery is a 25,000 square foot gallery contained within the MCI
Center. Home to the Wizards, Capitals, Mystic and the American
Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame, the MCI National
Sports Gallery is a fun diversion from the museum trail. This
summer with a purchase of a ticket to a Washington Mystic WNBA
basketball game, admission to the Gallery is free. Otherwise,
admission is $4 or $9 for a pass that lets you play all the games
once.
Within the Gallery is a
varied collection of sports memorabilia and artifacts. Muhammad
Ali’s boxing gloves and Ty Cobb’s baseball uniform are on
display as well as Babe Ruth’s Baseball bat.
The interactive sports games
tests your skills in several sports including basketball,
baseball, football and golf. It even has a sportscasting booth
from which you can deliver the call on some of the greatest sports
moments on film.
The MCI National Sports Gallery is the Mecca of family sports
entertainment. The interactive games are fun for kids and adults
alike. Older patrons might be sidelined by the active displays,
but there is still the great collection of sports memorabilia and
the American Sportscasters Hall of Fame.
A trip to the MCI center can
be educational too. A good tip is to check out the Discovery
Channel:Destination DC store. It has the Hubble Observatory, a
giant ant colony and a cast of the largest Tyrannosaurus Rex
skeleton ever assembled.
